Gone are the icy synths that washed across the duo's earlier songs. Oh yes, you will still find familiarity in Nouvion's voice, blanketed by that lush, ethereal reverb, and, in Abeele's arrangements, which remain subtle and moving as anything they've previously released. Yet, "Caregiver" underscores a more dynamic and ambitious sound palette for the band, placing an emphasis on organic instrumentation - upright piano, a string quartet, and natural drums, and recruiting touring guitarist Adrian Vieni to add haunting guitar leads and shoegaze textures to augment their traditional keyboard and beat driven songs.
